China and Tibet Expedition

Explore the wonders of Beijing and the Forbidden City.  Cycle from Tian'anmen Square to the Great Wall at Jinshanling and trek along its ramparts from tower to tower.  Take the overnight train to Xi'an and the famous Terracotta Army. Then fly to Lhasa and the elevated Tibetan plateau. See the Potala Palace and meet the monks and the warm and friendly local people. Head into the wilderness to undertake a challenging 4 day trek to Everest Base Camp where we stand in awe at the massive North Face.

Itinerary at a Glance

Day 1/3 - Fly to Beijing.  On arrival there is some free time to explore the city.
Day 4/5 - Short drive north to trek the Great Wall. 
Day 6/7 - Return to Beijing, free time to visit Hongqiao Market before taking the overnight train to X'ian.  Visit famed Terracotta Warriors. 
Day 8/10 - Fly to Lhasa, visit Potala Palace and see debating monks at Sera Monastery.
Day 11 - Leave Lhasa and head for Shigatse and the Tashilhunpo Monastery.
Day 12 - Long drive from Shigatse to Old Tingri.  On arrival we will have fantastic views of Mt Everest and Cho-Oyu.
Day 13 - Trek to Lungja
Day 14 - Trek to just before the Lamna-La Pass. 
Day 15 - Today we cross the Lamna-La and on to Rongbuk River
Day 16 - Trek to Rongbuk Monastery.  Here we have superb views of Mt Everest
Day 17 - Trek to Everest Base Camp
Day 18 - Establish camp for the next few days at Everest Base Camp.  There is an opportunity to venture up on the North Ridge hoping to reach 6000m and camp at Camp 2.
Day 19 - Head above Camp 2 past ice formations towards Camp 3 at the base of the north col.  Long descent back down to Base Camp.
Day 20/21 - Leave Base Camp and drive back to Old Tingri and on to Shigatse.  Next day continue to Lhasa.
Day 22/23 - Leave Tibet and fly back to Beijing, before flying back to the UK
